"whatever the present moment contains, accept it as if you had chosen it" -eckhart tolle
This quote spoke to me more than any of the others. In fact, I had it written in sharpie on my hand most days I was in treatment. I used it to help me eat then… but I still use it for other challenges I face now! I remember my focus would start to fade away from the group discussion the closer we got to lunch. I struggled so much with the idea of having to eat a meal. In my head (with an attitude) I would say… “I REALLY don’t want to eat lunch right now”. But with this quote in mind, I would just re-frame my attitude a bit to get me through. The fact that I didn’t want to eat lunch did not change, but my thoughts did change to something more like this… “I really don’t want to eat lunch right now. AND I’m going to eat lunch right now!” I think we can get stuck focusing on experiences we don’t want to have. The truth is, we all have uncomfortable moments and moments we wish we could change. But if we accept that they are happening and even attempt to embrace them… I think we can get through those tough moments with a bit more ease and move on with more of an “I can do this!” attitude.
